Follow These Guidelines If You're in an Accident

At The Scene

Don’t move your vehicle or leave the scene until the police have fully investigated the accident. Avoid making statements regarding personal blame. Cooperate with the police in their investigation.

Medical Evaluation

If you feel you were injured, seek appropriate medical attention as soon as possible. Be aware that some accident related injuries seem minor at first and then develop into more serious conditions. Please follow your doctor’s recommendations.

Retain Qualified Legal Representation

After an accident, it’s important to contact an attorney as quickly as possible. You’ll need to provide your attorney with copies of your auto insurance policy and the traffic accident card given to you by the police.

Damage to Your Vehicle

Prior to having your automobile repaired, take photographs of the damaged vehicle. Your attorney can arrange to have the necessary pictures taken if you don’t have a camera. At your request, your attorney will contact your collision insurance carrier to initiate the auto repair procedure. If you do not have collision insurance or a rental car provision within your policy, or if you do not want to have your car repaired through your own insurance company, your attorney can assist you in having your car repaired by the at fault insurance company of the person responsible for your accident.

Inquiries about Your Accident

It’s important that you avoid speaking with anyone other than your attorney, his staff, or your attorney's investigator about the accident. If you’re approached to answer questions regarding the accident, identify the individual and who they represent. Do not even talk with your insurance company or their legal department without first notifying your attorney, so that he/she may choose to be present.
